1963 Airstream
Renovate-Design-Build
In the summer of 2022, students were able to pick their choice of studio including the design-build option for a 1963 22’ Flying Cloud Airstream. This project was completed over one semester. We were given a budget of $22,000 from the Angelo Donghia foundation to complete this transformation. Our studio consisted of 16 students and one professor. We were lucky enough to work with Lenoir City Middle School and Beaumont Magnet Academy students.

When the Airstream arrived along with our studio for the semester we had no idea what lay before us. The exterior was in need of some repairs and buffing to try and get the shine back, along with all new windows since some were missing or inoperable.

While the exterior needed love so did the interior. Everything had to be taken out, including all layers of flooring (2 floors and subfloor) so we could repair the metal frame beneath.

After months of hard work and fun we were ready to show the elementary and middle schools we had been working with what we came up with for them based off the feedback they gave us.
